The title of this article may seem strange, but let me explain what I mean by it.

When you begin training a dog, most people don’t think too much about what they’re teaching. They know what they want their dog to do, such as ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘come’, etc., and they try to teach their dog to do those things by teaching them a word that describes what they want their dog to do.

For example, the sitting behavior is usually taught by saying the word “sit” to the dog you’re working with. It usually takes a relatively small amount of time for a dog to catch on to the word, and the desired behavior that is associated with that word. For most people, this is the way you train your dog, and that’s the only way that they usually attempt to teach such a command.
