Pet Sitting Questions
What does a Professional Pet Sitter do?
A professional pet sitter will come into your house when you are gone and feed your animals, let them outside to relieve themselves if necessary, clean up after your pets if there has been an accident, and anything else the animals need.
What kind of animals do you care for?
We will care for any animals in your home, provided they are not illegally owned and are not a hazard to the pet sitter. * The term “hazard” is defined as anything that is a severe, immediate threat to anyone who walks in the house, including the pet sitter. Feeding procedures should not be dangerous to the pet sitter, as far as venomous or poisonous animals, or animals that are food or toy aggressive.
How am I billed and when is it due?
For vacation pet sitting, we require half of the total bill up front. The final half of the bill is due within one week of the conclusion of our services. For non-vacation pet sitting (if you are gone for a long time in the day, and want someone to check in on your pets), the payment is due within a week of the conclusion of the service.
Do customers give you their keys? How do I get my key back when I return from my trip? What do you do with my key if it is on file?
When we pet sit for you, we do need keys to your home. The Mutt Squad, LLC codes keys such that they cannot be matched to your personal information and are kept in a hidden, secured lockbox. It is required that you get a spare key made specifically for The Mutt Squad, LLC. Keys are maintained on file until such time that their return is requested in writing at which point they will be mailed via USPS return receipt requested. Our hope in this policy is to make your trips as convenient and seamless as possible. Additionally, should you have to leave town unexpectedly, arrangements for additional pickups are not required leaving you with one less thing to worry about. The Mutt Squad, LLC will not be responsible for keys once they are out of our possession.
Can we contact you while we are away? Or will you contact us?
You will have the option for us to email, call, or text you with updates on how your pets are doing. This will be clarified at the initial Meet&Greet session.
Do I have to have another Meet&Greet session and fill out another liability waiver every time I leave town?
Provided that we already know your pets, and have a liability waiver on file for you, the only thing you will have to do is contact us to tell us when you will be out of town.
Would you stay overnight at a customer’s home to care for pets?
We will stay overnight at your home. Check our Pet Sitting page for more information.
Can my pets stay with you?
No, unfortunately we do not have the facilities to keep your animals with us over your vacation.
How many times a day should I have the pet sitter come visit my pets?
We recommend having someone check in on your pets at least twice a day, especially for dogs. We will check in on them anywhere from 2-5 times a day, depending on your preference.
How long does each visit last?
Each visit will last 30-60 minutes, depending on the number of animals you have, and the situation we find them in when we arrive. For example, if we walk in and they have made quite the mess, that visit will take longer than some of the others.
How much does a visit cost?
Each visit to your house will cost $20.00.
Do pet sitters just take care of pets while people are out of town?
Yes, generally our focus is on the pets when you are out of town. We will bring in the mail if you request it, as well as rotate which lights are on, but we will not clean the house (outside of animal accidents), or be there for arriving packages. Those types of services are separate, and are generally performed by a house sitter.
What if something happens and my pet sitter is unable to get to my pets?
The Mutt Squad, LLC has requested on your paperwork the name and phone number of a person living nearby. Your pets’ health and well-being is our utmost concern and we will contact you as soon as possible to keep you informed of these events.
Will I always have the same pet sitter?

Do you administer medication to pets?
Provided the medication is laid out for us, complete with directions, we will administer medication to your pets. This information should be given to us in the medical information forms, and will be gone over during the Meet&Greet time. If you are a repeat customer, medicinal information will need to be provided on our form at the house where we will see it or in an email to us prior to the start of the pet sitting.
What do you do in case of an emergency?
That will depend on the type of emergency. If it is a situation where your animal is injured in some way, they will be taken to their vet if they are open and an emergency animal hospital if they have a problem outside of normal operating hours. You will be contacted as soon as possible in any emergency situation.

If your pet should get out of your yard or house while you are gone and they are in the area, we will attempt to corral them. We will contact you immediately to determine the next step we will take in coaxing your animal to us or locating your animal if they are nowhere to be found.

We do require that dogs are up to date on all vaccinations, including rabies. We request this for our safety, but also for the safety of any animals we may encounter while walking your dog(s). We will need a current rabies certificate and they will need to be currently licensed with Maricopa county.
Will you do daily walks even on the weekends?
We operate 7 days a week for your convenience.

Can I ask that my dog be kept on-leash at all times?
When we are walking your dogs, they will never be taken off the leash. For the most part, the cities have laws against walking off-leash unless the dogs have passed a certification test to be off-leash in public places. Even if your dog is certified, it is safer for everyone if they remain on the leash while walking with someone who they may not respond to when they are distracted or excited.
Will the same person be walking my dog every time?
If at all possible, yes, the same person will walk your dog. This promotes a relationship between you and your dog walker, as well as between the dog walker and your dog, which is beneficial to the dog and dog walker on their walks.
Does the dog walker pick up after the dogs?
Again, it is generally city law to pick up after animals in parks or sidewalks. Your dog walker will pick up after your animal on their walks.
How am I billed and when is it due?
For short-term dog walking services, payment is due on the last day of the service. Short term service is 15 days or less. You will be billed on a monthly basis for any long-term dog walking services.
